It’s back after a year away! Oh how I’ve missed the crazy looks of the Met Gala red carpet last year – thank god Covid hasn’t stopped it this year.
This years theme for the Met Gala was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion‘ which celebrates all things American- from Designers to Cultural, Political and Social Events that have occurred during the past year.
Most Celebs have gone for the classic Hollywood glamour or western look however these are my thoughts on the best looks and the total misses.
This years look HAS to be Kendall Jenner once again wearing Givenchy. She was my favourite look in 2019 and stole the Met Gala red carpet with yet another amazing look this year. Although it is very similar to her 2019 look (sheer, figure hugging, jewelled long dress), I am still obsessed with this look as she looks so effortless.
Kendall Jenner kept it simple and sleek, channelling Audrey Hepburn in her most iconic role in ‘My Fair Lady’ but with a modern twist. She wore a striking neck piece and shoulder pads like Audrey Hepburn, but instead of the long white gloves she matched with sheer gloves matching her dress.
Looks I loved…
JLo wearing a western inspired outfit by Ralph Lauren. This look was a modern, rustic look perfect for an American themed event. She was really glowing!
Kaia Gerber in a stunning black Oscar De La Renta strapless gown. Another iconic look paying tribute to Bianca Jagger at the Met Gala back in 1981. She toned down the jewellery which I love, because sometimes less is more! She looked so elegant.
Lil Nas X wearing a dramatic three piece design by Donatella Versace. Although very similar to Lady Gaga’s Met Gala appearance in 2019, he looked very regal and my favourite look of the three was definitely the last, saving the best for last for sure.
Rihanna of course is one of my favourites as she is the queen of red carpets. She made her first debut as a couple with boyfriend Asap Rocky, wearing Balenciaga.
Iman Abdulmajid wearing the most extravagant and beautiful outfit of the Met Gala by Dolce & Gabbana x Harris Reed. She is wearing a gold jumpsuit with a gold feather cage skirt and headpiece. She really looks like a Queen.
Megan Fox wearing a plunging cut out Dundas dress. Megan always slays in anything she wears, even the day before at the VMA’s!
Kate Hudson all pretty in pink wearing a Micheal Kors two-piece. I feel the eyeshadow maybe the wrong shade, however I do love this outfit as it is so simple and you couldn’t get away with the feather cape anywhere else so was perfect for the Met.
Kerby Jean-Raymond wearing his own brand Pyer Moss. I would have paired this look with a different pair of shoes however I love this bold suit choice.
Normani looking very regal in a Valentino gown. This colour just pops on her skin tone – all I have to say is Wow.
Emily Blunt channelling old Hollywood Ziegfeld Girl, wearing a Miu Miu dress. She looked stunning,
Misses…
Kim Kardashian wearing an all black Balenciaga look. She wanted to be anonymous but she has done a few looks like this recently so was no surprise. It is a nice switch up from her previous Met Gala looks, however I feel the material doesn’t look very designer and like she just found random pieces in her wardrobe and sewed them together…
Billie Eilish wearing an Oscar De La Renta gown in ode to Marylin Monroe. I absolutely love this dress however this colour just washes her out completely. In another colour on her she would have 100% been my favourite look of the Met.
Ciara wearing Dundas dress inspired by her husband and his jersey number. I am not quite sure about this dress. Think it could be the bright colour and sequins putting me off.
Kehlani wearing a crystal-embellished Aliétte suit. Loving the suit but just not the hair with it.
Tracee Ellis Ross wearing Balenciaga is a miss for me this year even though I love love her!
Addison Rae wearing an electric red Tom Ford for Gucci 2003 gown. Bit too basic for me.
In 2019 I was obsessed with what Serena Williams wore however this year I am not a fan. Serena wearing Gucci.
